FTD To Be Featured on CNN!

12/11/2009 - A note from AFTD: On Monday, December 14 CNN will broadcast a piece they have produced on FTD. We have not yet seen the piece, but are told that a 2 1/2-minute version will air first during “American Morning” between 7 – 9 am EST, then be featured in the day shows on CNN, and that a shorter version will be aired as the “Health Minute” throughout the day on CNN affiliate stations. The full piece – which runs nearly four minutes – will be consistently available through the web at CNN.com and through a link on our home page www.ftd-picks.org. The piece features the family of Kenny Sparks who was diagnosed with FTD at the age of 49, neurologist Dr. Murray Grossman, and AFTD Executive Director Susan Dickinson. We are especially grateful to Cheryl Sparks and her children, Alexandra and Graham, who have shared their personal story in this very public way. AFTD is working with additional families across the US and Canada to capitalize on the CNN story with local media coverage. The generosity of those affected by FTD to participate in awareness and research efforts holds the key to a brighter future where these disorders are concerned. Please share word of this national media attention with friends, family, colleagues and all others who are interested in the frontotemporal dementias. Together we will change the future!

6/22/2009 - Marie and Michelle attended the 25th Annual Phillies Phestival to strike out ALS tonight. While estimates vary, according to UCSF, it is now believed that approximately 20% of ALS patients also have the signs and symptoms of frontotemporal dementia.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN.com) mis-informed about FTD

4/23/2009 - Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a very well respected member of the medical community (you may see him on CNN or on videos in your Doctor's office) discussed Frontotemporal Dementia in his blog recently. He gave a response to a question regarding FTD by discussing Alzheimer’s disease - he did not seem to know about the diagnosis of FTD. It’s possible to post responses on the website and AFTD is encouraging people to do that.

If you've read our book, or know anything about FTD, we ask that you please comment on the blog in hopes that he retracts his response and gives voice to this horrible disease. In memory of Bob, we thank you!

Bob's Birthday

1/23/2009 - Today would have been Bob's 53rd Birthday. Marie and Michelle have taken the day off to celebrate his memory. Thanks to everyone who has ordered a copy of An Evolution of Love this year.
